...your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired...

I haven't caught March Madness yet. I don't know what it is. I've filled out my brackets on line, and at work, but I'm just not pumped up about it.
Yesterday, because of a number of circumstances, basketball was the furthest thing from my mind, so I actually forgot about the games. I'm sure there are games on right now, but I'm just not gonna watch. It's exciting as hell, but I don't like getting worked up over the games. I'm also using some sort of reverse psychology on the basketball gods. I'm going to pretend I don't care. That way, my Tar Heels will win. And if they get ousted, I can say "That's alright. I didn't care that much this year". I know I won't be able to not watch forever, but I can at least do it for these first two days of games.

I've always perfunctorally picked the Tar Heels to win the tournament. Except, of course, that year that they didn't make the NCAA. This year, though, I think they actually have a really good chance. If McCants can get back on his "A" game, and the rest of the fellas can play well. They cannot endure poor defensive play, or an injury to Raymond Felton. As long as neither of these things happen, I think they've got a great shot.

My hair is getting extremely long, and I've been talking about cutting it for over a week now. Today's the day.

No Dave, it just doesn't work that way. The Sports Gods are too smart for that; they *know* you care and your feigned nonchalance will not impress them. Don't become one of those bandwagon fans who only gets excited when your team is in the finals. You may as well move to Atlanta and become a Braves fan! Go ahead...turn on the tv and starting caring. It's ok, you'll be fine....

this is the first time I ever remember I haven't had the slightest interest in college basketball. i actually haven't seen a game all year. I thought I would be more excited when march madmess got here. But somehow, I am not.

Actually more excited about the college hockey playoffs.

Incidently, i did fill out one bracet card....My champion....Illinois. they have the easiest road to the final game.

Hmmm. Good approach. Do you think if I had used it; my Clemson Tigers would be up there? Just kidding. I digress. We went father than I expected us to. Have a good w'end, darlin'!

*farther. But, ya know, my FATHER went to Clemson. It's all symbolical.

There's also other things that you can do to fool the sports Gods. I never pick the Heels to take it all, because I figure it's a win-win: if they win, I don't give two shits about my bracket. But if they lose, at least I can console myself somewhat that I knew they were going to. It's a loophole that the sports Gods still haven't figured out how to close.

By the way, this just in: Makhtar Ndiaye just fouled out.

I HATE MAKHTAR NDIAYE!!! The un-funnest guy that you loved to hate since everyone else did too (even die-hard fans of his team).

yeah, Doug. I always hated Makhtar. As a player, I hated him because he was whiny and quite frankly, terrible. Eric's story about his friend speaking Makhtar's native tongue to him in the grocery store and getting treated like an asshole made me REALLY think the guy is a prick. Then he pulled some dumb ass stunt as a member of the Charleston LowGaters (of the NBA developmental league). He "joked" with some airport security personnel that he had a bomb in his suitcase. He ended up in jail, and his team was detained and lots of other innocent people were delayed just because he wanted to be a prick.

What brought that statement on, anyway?
